Prof. Charuta Palsodkar, an Associate Professor of the Industrial Design Department, joined the institute in 2022. Her domain expertise is in Product Design and related courses.
Charuta holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and an M.Des in Industrial Design from IDC School of Design, IIT Bombay. Her career began at Tata Motors, where she dedicated over two decades (1999-2022) to advancing automotive design. Her journey in the auto industry transitioned from passenger cars to defense vehicles through commercial vehicles. She collaborated extensively with international design houses, auto ecosystem stakeholders, and government and defense officials. Over and above product design, her expertise spans from craftsmanship in commercial vehicles to pioneering technologies like ballistic and blast protections in defense vehicles. She held different leadership positions at Tata Motors. Vehicles she has overseen are currently deployed, including in the Indian army, enhancing soldiers' capabilities in combat.
In 2022, Charuta transitioned to academia, joining Symbiosis Institute of Design as an associate faculty member. Her research interests are broad, encompassing Product Design, Sustainability, Frugal Design, Biomimicry, Game Design, Automobile Design, Design for Special Needs, Ergonomics, Systems Thinking, Design Thinking, Design Education, and Curriculum Development.
Beyond academia, Charuta finds joy in trekking, music, and painting. She is deeply committed to environmental causes and nature conservation.
