Borrowing Rules
  • Students can borrow three (3) books for 15 days. An ID card is mandatory while issuing books.
  • Books returned after the due date will incur a fine of ₹10 per day from the due date.
  • Students can borrow two (2) international magazines for 8 days. If returned after the due date, a fine of ₹50 per day will be charged.
  • Students can borrow one (1) national magazine for 8 days. If returned after the due date, a fine of ₹10 per day will be charged.
  • Faculty members can borrow 20 books for 1 month.
  • All library users must follow the library rules while borrowing materials.
  • In case of a lost book or magazine, the student must replace it with a new copy and pay the applicable fine. If the book or magazine is rare or out of print, the student must pay its actual cost as recorded in the Accession Register.
  • Fines for overdue, damaged, or lost resources must be paid as per the library rules approved by the Library Committee. For details, students may visit the library.
  • If a library book or magazine is lost or misplaced, the student must immediately report it to the library. The daily fine will stop from the date of reporting. If not reported, the fine will continue to accumulate daily as per the rules.

Online lectures:
The Library In-Charge conducts lectures for users, providing guidance on effectively accessing and utilizing e-resources.

Orientation:
Newly admitted students are oriented towards the resources and functioning of the Library via a comprehensive orientation organized by the library every year.

Computerized services:
Users can search the library resources online through OPAC (symbiosis-koha.informindia.co.in). In the case of multiple copies, one can reserve a copy only if all copies of the title are issued. Member can recommend books for the library through OPAC.

Online Access to E –resources:
The library subscribes to databases such as EBSCO, Emerald Insight, and JSTOR. Additionally, the SID Library provides access to ten e-journals from Sage Publications.

Inter Library Loan:
Since 2012, the library has offered an Inter-Library Loan (ILL) service to all sister institutes of SIU. This service is utilized by SIS, SIMS, SCMC, SSLA, SLS, SSIS, Symbiosis Society, and the Central Library of SIU.

Reading Room & Thinking Room:
The SID Library offers a dedicated Reading Hall for users. Additionally, it features a designated discussion area known as the Thinking Room where students can hold gropu discussions and carry out ideations. Reading tables are strategically placed near the book racks throughout the library. The facility can accommodate approximately 100 students at a time.

A3 Table Top Scanner:
The ScanSnap SV600 is a contactless overhead scanner designed for scanning of newspapers, magazines, books, and documents up to 30 mm thick without causing damage. It supports A3 document scanning, allows multiple documents to be scanned at once, and features VI Technology for steady images. The Auto Book Correction and Point Retouch functions enhance scanned images, while the Page Turning Detection and Time Mode ensure smooth book scanning. The scanner is compatible with both PC and Mac, making it a valuable resource for SID library users.

Collection Development:
SID members can recommend relevant books for purchase by submitting their suggestions to the librarian. Books from vendors on approval will be periodically available in the library. All members are encouraged to explore the displayed titles and provide recommendations. Recommendation forms are available at the library.

New Arrival:
The library follows a New Arrivals practice, where newly acquired resources are displayed for two weeks before being made available for general circulation. This allows users to explore the latest additions to the collection.

Circulation of Materials:
Each library user is issued a library card, which is required for borrowing resources. The Koha system is used by library staff for managing circulation. Members can borrow up to three books at a time for a maximum period of two weeks, with the option to renew them for one additional week. Bound journals can be borrowed for a maximum of three days.
