Inter-Disciplinary Electives
Design is a discipline, a process, a method, a way of thinking.
Every student of the four-year B. Des. programme SID is offered two opportunities to choose a course from another discipline during their tenure. Our interdisciplinary electives offer students the opportunity to expand their horizons and integrate diverse fields of knowledge into their design practice. These electives are crafted to bridge the gap between different disciplines, fostering a holistic understanding and a multi-faceted approach to problem-solving. By engaging in interdisciplinary electives, design students can explore subjects beyond the traditional boundaries of their core curriculum. The benefits of interdisciplinary electives are manifold. Exposure to different fields can spark new ideas and innovative solutions that might not emerge within a single discipline.
Students equip themselves with a versatile skill set, making them adaptable and competitive in a rapidly evolving job market. Working across disciplines also nurtures collaboration and communication skills, essential for successful partnerships in the professional world. Inter-disciplinary approaches to problem solving also help students develop effective and sustainable solutions. These experiences enable students to become well-rounded professionals who can navigate and contribute to a wide range of industries. This approach not only broadens their knowledge base but also instills a mindset of lifelong learning and curiosity, essential attributes for thriving in the dynamic field of design.
The inter-disciplinary electives are three credit courses for a duration of 75 hours and span a range of different areas of study. A student may choose any one of the elective courses being offered in that particular semester.
